MEET MIRANDA ANTONIOU, PERSONAL TRAINER

MEET MIRANDA ANTONIOU

MIRANDA HOLDS A BA IN HISPANIC STUDIES AND PORTUGUESE. SHE ALSO HOLDS HER MA IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING. DURING HER STUDIES, MIRANDA SPENT A YEAR OF HER LIFE IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL WHERE SHE IMMERSED HERSELF IN THE CULTURE. ALTHOUGH SHE HELD HER BA AND MA, MIRANDA STRUGGLED TO FIND A JOB IN THE FIELDS SHE STUDIES. SHE TELLS US, “I WAS A TRANSLATOR, A SPANISH LANGUAGE TOUR GUIDE IN LONDON, A CUBAN TRAVEL EXPERT AND A TRAVEL BLOGGER. I SKIPPED AROUND JOBS, LOST HOPE A FEW TIMES, FELT LIKE I FAILED, HAD TONS OF DOORS SLAMMED IN MY FACE. I TRAVELED OVER TWO HOURS FOR UNPAID INTERNSHIPS TO NO AVAIL.” THROUGH HER STRUGGLE IN FINDING A JOB WITHIN HER INDUSTRY, MIRANDA TURNED TO HER PASSION AND MADE IT HER PROFESSION. SHE NOW WORKS AS A PERSONAL TRAINER AND PILATES INSTRUCTOR. “I TOOK A MASSIVE RISK AND LEAP OF FAITH BY QUITTING MY JOB AND TURNING MY BACK ON FIVE YEARS OF STUDY IN ORDER TO PURSUE MY PASSION. MY PASSION IN LIFE IS TO HELP OTHER WOMEN. I WORK EVERY DAY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE, ENCOURAGE A POSITIVE SELF-IMAGE AND HELP WOMEN TO LEAD HEALTHIER LIFESTYLES. MY GOAL IS TO NEVER ALLOW ANYONE TO COME TO ME WITHOUT LEAVING HAPPIER IN THEMSELVES AND WITH A MORE OPTIMISTIC VIEW OF LIFE. I WANT MORE WOMEN TO REALIZE THEIR STRENGTH.”
WOMXNITE ASKED MIRANDA HOW SHE FIGURED OUT WHAT HER PASSION IN LIFE WAS:
“YEARS OF BULLYING WHICH CAUSED SELF-HATE AND DISTORTED BODY IMAGE CONTRIBUTED TO MY DETERMINATION TO BETTER MYSELF. I WORKED HARD TO TRANSFORM MY BODY, AT FIRST FOR PURELY AESTHETIC REASONS - I JUST WANTED TO FEEL WORTHY OF PRAISE AND PROVE THAT I WAS EVERYTHING I WAS TOLD I WAS NOT. HOWEVER, THROUGH FITNESS I GAINED A WHOLE NEW PERSPECTIVE. I FOUND STRENGTH I DID NOT KNOW I HAD AND SELF CONFIDENCE I NEVER THOUGHT POSSIBLE. WITH THAT CAME THE STRONG URGE TO AID OTHERS GOING THROUGH SOMETHING SIMILIAR; I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT NO YOUNG WOMAN LOOKS IN THE MIRROR AND CANNOT IDENTIFY EVEN ONE BEAUTIFUL THING ABOUT HERSELF. I ALSO WANTED TO GIVE WOMEN THE TOOLS AND KNOWLEDGE TO GO ABOUT TRANSFORMATION IN A HEALTHY MANNER.”
MIRANDA LETS US IN ON WHAT HER BIGGEST CHALLENGE WAS IN GETTING TO WHERE SHE IS TODAY:
“MY BIGGEST CHALLENGE WAS MY OWN MINDSET. THE BELIEF THAT I WAS NOT GOOD ENOUGH OR THAT I WOULD NEVER AMOUNT TO ANYTHING WAS POWERFUL. IT WAS NOT AN EASY OR QUICK ROAD AND TRYING TO CHANGE A LIFETIME OF NEGATIVE THINKING WAS BY FAR THE HARDEST POINT.”
MIRANDA SHARES WITH US WHAT SHE WISHES SHE WOULD HAVE LISTENED TO GROWING UP:
“YOU SHOULD NOT HAVE TO RIP YOURSELF TO PIECES TO MAKE OTHERS WHOLE. NEVER LET THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS BE THE MEASURE YOUR SELF WORTH.”
