SHE ENJOYS TRAVELING, SPENDING QUALITY TIME WITH HER FAMILY, FRIENDS AND GIVING BACK TO HER COMMUNITY.

Q: DID YOU PURSE A HIGHER EDUCATION? WHY OR WHY NOT? IF SO, WHAT SCHOOL DID YOU ATTEND AND WHAT WAS YOUR DEGREE?

A: I DID, MOST FIRST-GENERATION STUDENTS DECIDE TO APPLY TO COLLEGE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THEIR PREFERRED PROFESSION. BUT UNLIKE STUDENTS WHOSE PARENTS HAVE EARNED A DEGREE, THEY ALSO OFTEN SEE COLLEGE AS A WAY TO BRING HONOR TO THEIR FAMILIES. I WANTED TO DISRUPT THE  INTERGENERATIONAL CONTINUITY I WAS SEEING WITHIN MY FAMILY, I REFUSED TO BE ANOTHER HIGH SCHOOL DROP OUT AND BECOME ANOTHER STATISTIC AND AS A MIDDLE CHILD I WAS THE FIRST TO NOT ONLY GRADUATE FROM A HIGH SCHOOL BUT ALSO PURSUE A HIGHER EDUCATION AND RECEIVED MY BA FROM CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY OF LONG BEACH IN SPANISH TRANSLATION INTERPRETATION.

Q:WHAT DO YOU FOR FOR A LIVING? IS IT WHAT YOU THOUGHT YOU WOULD BE DOING 5-10 YEARS AGO?

A: I NEVER IMAGINED 10 YEARS AGO THAT I WOULD BE DOING WHAT I DO TODAY. AS A DIGITAL AND SOCIAL ENTHUSIAST THAT THRIVES IN CREATING CONTENT, STAYING INFORMED AND GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, I AM ENLIGHTEN THAT TODAY I GET TO EMPOWER MY COMMUNITY THROUGH NOT ONLY MY CURRENT EMPLOYER, UNIVISION, BUT ALSO THROUGH ELLAS, A NON-PROFIT THAT FACILITATES ACADEMIC AND LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ASSURING A HIGHER EDUCATION SCAFFOLDING THAT’S ABSENT IN THE LIVES OF UNDERPRIVILEGED LATINA YOUTH. AS ONE OF THOSE YOUNG LATINAS THAT BENEFITED FROM THE PROGRAM AT AGE 14, I NEVER THOUGHT THAT TODAY I WOULD BE USING MY VOICE AND MY STORY TO EMPOWER OUR FUTURE GENERATION.

Q: HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR PASSION IN LIFE? IF SO, WHAT IS IT?

A: GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY, EMPOWERING OUR FUTURE GENERATION FULFILLS ME. SHARING MY STORY TO OTHERS KNOWING THAT IT'LL EMPOWER AND INSPIRE THEM. WHAT MADE ME FEEL ASHAMED OF MY SELF AT SOME POINT IN MY LIFE NOW GIVES ME THE CONFIDENCE TO CONTINUE MY JOURNEY.

Q: WHAT EVENT OR MOMENT OCCURRED THAT LED YOU TOWARDS YOUR PASSION?

A: THE FIRST TIME I USED MY STORY AS STRENGTH TO SERVE OTHERS. GROWING UP IN FOSTER CARE HOMES ALWAYS WAS THE SHAMEFUL, DARK, EMBARRASSING PART OF MY LIFE. THE FIRST TIME I SHARED IT, I FELT NOT ONLY LIBERATED BUT ALSO EXPERIENCED THE IMPACT MY STORY CAN HAVE ON OTHER PEOPLE AND THAT'S WHEN I REALIZED THAT FINDING PURPOSE IS LESS ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT AND MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU WANT TO GIVE.

Q: WHAT DOES SUCCESS LOOK LIKE TO YOU? IS YOUR IDEA OF SUCCESS DIFFERENT FROM A PREVIOUS VERSION?

A: SOMETIMES, WE ARE SO CONSUMED WITH OUR NEXT CAREER GOALS WE FORGET TO CELEBRATE WHEN WE REACH OUR CURRENT GOALS. I'VE LEARNED TO CELEBRATE THOSE SMALL GOALS, BY WRITING DOWN ON MY AGENDA DAILY, I AM ABLE TO VISUALLY SEE WHAT I HAVE ACCOMPLISHED. THESE ARE THE SMALL GOALS THAT LEAD US TOWARDS OUR BIGGER VISION.

Q: DO YOU HAVE ANY FAILURES, WHICH IN RETROSPECT, TURNED OUT TO BE LEADING YOU TOWARDS A BETTER DIRECTION?

A: AS A CHILD GROWING UP FROM HOME TO HOME, I SPENT MANY YEARS IN SADNESS, TRAPPED IN MY MIND, FEELING SORRY FOR MYSELF FROM THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF MY LIFE. I NOW UNDERSTAND FULLY I WAS PUT THROUGH ALL OF THAT TO BE PREPARED. I HAVE WITNESSED SO MANY THINGS IN MY LIFE THAT I TRULY DON’T WANT TO WASTE ONE DAY, I WANT TO CHERISH EVERY MOMENT. SO IF IT MEANS TRULY GETTING OVER MY SH*T THEN SO BE IT. I WAS PREPARED TO DO THE WORK SO I COULD ENJOY ALL THAT I WAS GIVEN IN THIS LIFE AND LIVE IT FULLY, HONESTLY AND COMPLETELY. THE LAST THING I WANT TO DO IS LEAVE THIS EARTH WITHOUT TRYING AND TRYING AGAIN EVERY DAY, I REFUSE TO LET FEAR STOP ME.

Q: IF YOU COULD GIVE ADVICE TO YOUR YOUNGER, THIRTEEN YEAR OLD SELF, WHAT WOULD YOU SAY?

A: DON’T TRY TO PLAN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE OUT! WHILE IT IS PRUDENT TO HAVE SOME GOALS THAT YOU’D LIKE TO ATTAIN IN LIFE, YOU HAVE TO BE ACCEPTING WHEN THINGS DON’T FOLLOW THE PATH YOU’VE SET OUT.
