MEET NATALIE TORRES-HADDID

BORN IN EL SALVADOR, NATALIE’S FAMILY FLED DURING THE CIVIL WAR IN THE 80’S, LEADING THEM TO INGLEWOOD WHERE SHE WAS RAISED IN A LOW-INCOME COMMUNITY.

THE LACK OF FINANCIAL LITERACY HAS NEGATIVE EFFECTS, WHICH NATALIE BEGAN NOTICING AFTER VOLUNTEERING AT A FOOD BANK AFTER THE LA RIOTS. SHE SAW PEOPLE SHE KNEW STRUGGLING TO SIMPLY FEED THEIR FAMILIES. FROM HERE, NATALIE DECIDED SHE NEEDED TO GO TO COLLEGE AND HELP HER COMMUNITY.

ALTHOUGH SHE ATTENDED COLLEGE, SHE WAS NOT YET WELL VERSED IN FINANCIAL LITERACY. ON TOP OF HER MORTGAGE, SCHOOL LOANS, CREDIT DEBT, SHE LOST HER JOB TWO YEARS AFTER THE MARKET DROPPED. HER LIFE CHANGED DRASTICALLY. SHE BEGAN TO SUFFER FROM DEPRESSION. SHE FOUND HERSELF IN AN ACUTE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, WHERE SHE WONDERED WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. SHE FELT LOST WITH NO WAY OUT OF DEBT. AFTER 36 HOURS SHE WAS RELEASED FROM THE PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL WITH A MISSION TO TURN HER RELATIONSHIP WITH FINANCIAL LITERACY INTO A POSITIVE ONE.

AFTER RECEIVING HER MASTERS IN PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION MPA FROM CSUN AND 2 UNDERGRADUATE DEGREES, A BS IN FINANCE AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS, NATALIE IS NOW WORKING TO TEACH HER COMMUNITY WHAT FINANCIAL LITERACY IS AND HELP THEM BECOME COMFORTABLE WITH THEIR FINANCES.
